Sounds unlock memories Music like archaeology, sifts through time, Revealing the concealed half forgotten Buried within the Strata of the Primordial Mind Steve Roach & Robert Rich From the recording Strata Through my years of lectures and workshops on music and the near-death experience (NDE), I have often been asked for music that would conveys the state of bliss lived in a NDE or that would help to go back into that state. This is what I had in mind when Kenneth Ring asked me to write the appendix on Music and the Near-Death Experience for his book, Lessons from the Light. Most recently, part of the list was used by PMH Atwater in The Complete Idiot's Guide to Near-Death Experiences, one of the most complete books on the subject. The following list is by no means extensive and for more suggestions, I invite you to check our website in the coming months. First, it is important to understand that music cannot convey by itself the bliss state described by NDEr merely by just listening to it or by superficially induce an altered state of mind or of consciousness. The way of listening I suggest would be similar to a meditation state, where one has to put himself in resonance with the sound. In my years of research and experiment following my own NDE, I realized that the near-death experience is a gateway into consciousness, a powerful transformative experience that leads one into a "journey to the soul", once one pass through the stage of asking "Is it true or not?" Its effects challenge our ways of thinking and feeling, our perception of time and space and the rational, as well as emotional and spiritual dimensions of life, in the same way a spiritual path would do it. Music puts one in resonance and opens up new dimensions within oneself. The following albums may induce a resonance in you that could lead to a bliss experience. The music is divided in four stages related somehow to the near-death experience. Some music may bring in you a feeling of "being at home".
• Robert Haig Coxon: The Silent Path, RHC Prod, CD 5501-2 • Constance
Demby: Novus
Magnificat, Hearts of Space, HS
11003-2 • Steve
Roach, Dreamtime Return, Fortuna, FOR 18055-2 (Double CD) • Steve Roach, The Magnificent Void, Fathom, HS11062-2 Finally, for those of you who asked me which music was similar to the Sound Current I heard in my NDE, here are some pieces by Steve Roach that conveys this feeling. I recommend listening to them in repeat mode, at low volume, surrendering to the sound, without looking for any result. Just BE in the sound. Just BE THE SOUND! • Structures
